My name is Mr Williams, I am Deputy Headteacher & curriculum leader for Personal & Social Education at MCPA.
We are currently revising our PSE curriculum in order I am extremely proud of our PSHE curriculum and how it continuously
evolves to reflect the needs and experiences of the children within our school. What I love about this subject is that it sets
children up with the life skills and knowledge they will need to be able to safely manage their lives now and in the future.
Democracy - We teach pupils how they can influence decision-making through the democratic process.
For example: Pupils have the opportunity to have their voices heard and are able to express their views freely through
our pupil voice surveys across subjects and within PSHE lessons of reflection.
Respect and Tolerance - Through the PSHE curriculum, pupils are encouraged to discuss and respect differences between
people, such as differences of faith, ethnicity, disability, gender or sexuality and differences of family situations.
Individual Liberty - Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are advised
how to exercise these safely. Vulnerable pupils are protected and stereotypes challenged.
A strong anti-bullying culture is embedded in the curriculum.
Our PSHE curriculum enables pupils to build their cultural capital preparing children with the essential Personal, Social,
Health and Emotional knowledge and skills for what comes next. The exploration of new skills and experiences helps
to nurture grit, curiosity and creativity.
Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education promotes pupil’s personal, social and emotional development, as well
as their health and wellbeing. Though aspects of Personal Development permeate throughout the curriculum and wider practice of the school, our PSHE curriculum takes perhaps the most explicit focus on equipping pupils with the knowledge and skills to keep
themselves safe and healthy and to become independent and responsible members of society.
Learning experiences in PSHE here at MCPA foster the development of positive, respectful relationships, focusing on family and
friendships, in all contexts, including online. We aim to develop self-confidence, self-esteem, and resilience in our pupils, giving
them the qualities and attributes that they need to lead confident, healthy and independent lives.
Our whole school curriculum design promotes a positive philosophy and creative teaching and learning activities to nurture
children’s development as compassionate and well-rounded human beings as well as building their capacity to learn and contribute.
Pupils are supported in exploring moral and social issues that arise in their lives and in society; we develop the knowledge, skills
and understanding they need to live confident, healthy, independent lives and members of society. We explore and drive citizenship
and democracy providing coherence and context for children to scaffold their learning. School Council, Community Quality Champions, Sports Leaders, Urban Crew, Mental Health Champions further support pupil acquisition of knowledge, skills and understanding.
